At a retail distribution hub, the 40-pound plastic totes used to hold clothing items were constantly diverting across the mechanical fasteners installed in the belt. The wear and tear of these bins passing across the fasteners was damaging the splice and the belts were being replaced every two to three weeks. 


Being that the conveyor belt was thermoplastic, installation of a finger endless splice using the Novitool® Aero® Splice Press was suggested. The thought was that this splice would provide a perfectly flat surface at the splice point of the belt, offering a smooth surface for the diverted totes when passing over the spliced location in the belt. That continuous surface would protect the splice in the belt from the hard plastic tote. 


The resulting splice worked well, producing a smooth, flat surface for the totes to ride across while being conveyed. The belts, which were usually being replaced every two weeks, are now lasting more than three months. This success led the company to purchase an Aero Press, along with a Pun MMobile Finger Punch, for future belt splicing.
